Reading Club 2000

A library in the most unexpected of places.

As much as it is a wonder to discover, the Reading Club is even more extraordinary when you find out its rules. There are none. “No rules,” says caretaker and Club founder Hernando “Nanie” Guanlao. “People can borrow, they can read, they can take home. In fact, the club is open 24/7. I never close.”

Not only that, but once you take a book, you don’t have to return it; it’s yours. In fact, Guanlao encourages you to take it, take it!  This then is the ultimate democratization of reading-take home whichever book you want whenever you want and it’s yours to keep. “It’s fine with me because I know that (people) need (the books) and in my mind, whatever they take, even everything, will be returned a thousand fold,” he says.

Reading Club 2000
1454 Balagtas St., Barangay La Paz, Makati City.

Yes… right on the pavement. You won’t miss it. ;)

I was cleaning my room today and found these lil babies. My mom bought them for me to read when I was sick a few months back and I’ve read them and no longer want them. I love The Hunger Games but I don’t have a lot of need for its novelty items because I don’t collect it and I’m not gonna start. And I know Tumblr is wild about the series and I figured I’d give someone the opportunity to win these magazines (and magnetic bookmarks) that might not already have them.
So. Stuff you should know:
-All of the posters are still intact. Nothing has been removed from either magazine. The bookmarks have not been open, either.
-You do not have to be following me to participate. This is so minimal as far as giveaways go, it seems ridiculous to require that.
-You can only reblog once per day. I don’t like having my dash spammed with continuous reblogging and I will disqualify you if you do so.
-I will ship anywhere and everywhere but if you are under 18 or still living with a parent or guardian, please get permission for obvious reasons. Pleasepleaseplease.
-The giveaway will end on June 30, 2012 at 9pm EST. I will use random.org to generate a number and pick a winner that way. If you’re participating, please have your inbox open on or track your URL so I can notify you and get the appropriate information.
May the odds be ever in your favor!

It’s been quite a year. I still can’t believe that last June, I was plotting how best to kill off poor Pedro, and today I get to ecstatically announce that since its Christmas release, the Learning to Dance ebook has been downloaded more than one thousand times.

Things there are less than a thousand of:

  • days in a year
  • planets in the solar system
  • species of cats
  • songs that Glee has recorded

That number, when combined with the incalculable views LtD has seen online on Tumblr and Fanfiction.net, equals a whole lot more people than I ever imagined would read this little story of mine. The fact that new readers are still discovering it, new fanart is being drawn, and new tears are being shed even now continues to boggle my mind. You are all amazing.

(Incidentally, if you haven’t yet, I highly recommend getting yourself a copy of the free LtD ebook - available in PDF, mobi, and ePub formats, it’s the most up-to-date, polished, and best version of the story available - with bonus gorgeous full-colour illustrations by official artist Kendyll Romine!)

To celebrate, and as a lead-in to some even cooler announcements to come, I’m announcing the Learning to Dance 1000+ Downloads Tumblr Giveaway!

The Prizes:

Third Prize - A set of three adorable LtD buttons featuring fan-favourite quotes: “Wherever you’re going, Starship Ranger, I’m going with you,” “It’s always been you and me, right?” and of course, “Sometimes dreams come true.” These buttons are not currently available anywhere else!

Second Prize - An 8×10 art print of your choice from amazing artist Ree‘s LtD Society6 store and a set of three LtD quote buttons!

Grand Prize - The lucky grand prize winner will receive a truly rare gift – there are only three of these in existence in the world. Yes, I’m talking about your very own paperback copy of Learning to Dance! The Learning to Dance paperback is a real, bound book featuring a uniquely designed full-colour cover and black-and-white interior including all of Kendyll Romine’s original illustrations. As a work of fanfiction, it has never been, and will never be, available to purchase - this is literally the only chance you will ever get to own one. I will, of course, personalize an inscription for the winner inside the book’s cover. Oh yes, and I’ll throw in a set of LtD quote buttons too!

Have I caught your interest?

Rules:

  1. To enter, reblog this post up to three times a day. Likes count as well, but reblogging will maximize your chances of winning! (Please do not spam your followers, one can only do so much scrolling past multiple posts before one’s fingers get tired.)
  2. You don’t have to be following me to win, but I won’t argue with you if you do. :)
  3. For those of you who do not have Tumblr but would still like to enter: you will get a bonus entry if you share this post on Facebook (and if you want to “like” my author page while you’re there, I wouldn’t protest that either!).
  4. Winners will be selected from the reblogs and shares using a random number generator. Winners will be notified via private message, so make sure your ask box is open! If I don’t hear back from the winners within 48 hours of notifications going out, a new winner will be chosen.
  5. The contest will be open until 12 noon EST on Sunday, June 24th 2012.
  6. International entries are welcome, I will ship worldwide!

Happy reblogging, good luck, and thank you for everything.

Here’s the gorgeous cover for Victoria Schwab’s The Archived:
I just love it so much! The font and colors are perfection, and the placement of the clipping mask between the girl’s face and the smoke is just so freakin awesome I can’t even -photoshopgasm-
And here’s the back of the cover:
Isn’t it amazing?! Well, guess what’s even more amazing? Victoria’s giving away these cute little keys that you can cash in for swag items, etc. The bigger the key, the bigger the prize! And get this- one of the prizes up for grabs is a signed copy of each of her books, for life! You can check out the giveaway here.
The Archived will be released in January 2013 by Disney Hyperion, and since it’s Disney Hyperion, the chances of me getting a review copy is close to nil. I’m not losing hope though. You never know! ;)
You can add this book to your GoodReads lists here
So what do you think about the cover? Are you looking forward to this book too? :)
